Open Position: Research Associate

POSITION TYPE: Full-time, Regular

REPORTS TO: SVP Production and Development


Job Description

Lumen is seeking a highly motivated, detail-oriented Research Associate.

The Research Associate is responsible for managing samples, developing, implementing, and reporting results from laboratory assays such as ELISAs, Western blots, and label-free binding assays.


The key duties and responsibilities for this position are as follows:

  • Assay development, validation, and sample analysis and results reporting under cGMP conditions

  • Coordinate interactions with CROs including sample shipping and recording of results

  • Maintain accurate records of all activities

  • Review process documentation and contribute to continuous improvements in quality and efficiency

  • Conduct laboratory assays in support of research, development, and production activities

  • Maintain regular communication with scientists, production staff, and other project staff

  • Maintain a strict adherence to laboratory safety procedures and good chemical hygiene practices


Desired and Required Qualifications

Experience and education required:


  • BA/BS in chemistry, biochemistry, microbiology, or related field

  • 3-5 years job experience in an industrial biotechnology, pharma, or food laboratory setting

The following attributes are highly desired in the successful candidate:

  • 2-4 years of work experience within a regulated environment, with knowledge of relevant cGMP

  • requirements

  • Familiarity with label-free assays such as surface plasmon resonance or biolayer interferometry

  • Familiarity with label-based assays such as ELISA, ECL, Western blotting, etc.

  • Well-organized and detail-oriented with strong technical skills, excellent written and verbal

  • communication skills, and proven ability to multitask

  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively collaborate with others in a dynamic team

  • environment

  • Capable of supporting multiple projects simultaneously in a deadline-driven environment

  • Adaptability, flexibility, independence and resourcefulness to thrive in a fast-paced, small-company

  • environment

  • High level of proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Project.

  • High integrity and ethics

  • Commitment to quality and timely delivery of results

Physical Requirements

  • Stand for extended periods of time (2 or more hours)

  • Occasionally lift or carry up to 20 kg
